Christchurch is the largest city on the South Island of New Zealand. Christchurch had a major earthquake in 2011. Many buildings were heavily damaged, including the cathedral. The tram line through the center of the city is not currently in operation.

Christchurch is the beginning point of most Antarctic exploration cruises. The International Antarctic Centre won the New Zealand Tourism Board's award for 'Best Visitor Attraction'. The Centre recreates the atmosphere of Antarctica providing an interactive experience of the Southern Continent.

Other sights include the Air Force Museum at Wigram, Willowbank Wildlife Reserve and the Christchurch Gondola for a cable-car ride to the summit, with breathtaking 360-degree views of the city, Canterbury Plains and Banks Peninsula.

Christchurch is a beautiful Garden City. Visit the Sanitarium Gardens, the Christchurch Botanic Gardens or Mona Vale.
