Florence Information - Things to do
The jewel city of Florence lies in the Tuscany region of Italy. Florence is in a fertile valley surrounded by the Appenine Mountains. The valley has many vineyards and olive groves.
Places to visit in Florence include the Plazza Signoria with the impressive Palazzo Vecchio and the Loggia del Lanzi. The old city center includes such sights as the Franciscan Church of Santa Ceoce and the cathedral with the cupola by Brunelleschi and Giotto's bell tower. Nearby is the Accademia Gallery with the statue of David by Michelangelo.
The Uffizi Gallery has paintings by such famous artists as Botticelli, Giotto, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo and Raphael.
Venice Information - Things to do
Venice was founded over 600 years ago. Many buildings built around the time of founding still exist. Walk the narrow streets and alleyways, visit the many public squares and ride a gondola on the many canals. Venice is a city for wondering, finding new discoveries, getting lost and enjoying life.
Visit the open-air Rialto fish and fruit market, between the Grand Canal and Campo delle Beccarie. The market site was where Venice was founded and has been a market place for 600 years. The Ponte di Rialto was the first bridge over the Grand Canal.
The political center of Venice has always been St. Mark's Square. Do not miss St. Mark's Basilica with masterpieces by goldsmiths from throughout the history of Venice, including the golden altar (Pala D'Oro). The square also has Doge's Palace, the Bell and Clock Towers and Sansovino Library.
