Things to do in Prague
Prague the capital of the Czech Republic has become a modern city since the fall of Communism with modern building constructed next to a building that may be 500 or more years old. Walk the streets of old town and see the square with the Old Town Hall with its astronomical clock and apostles. There are many examples of Baroque architecture in the square area. Visit St. Nicholas Church and the Tyn Cathedral, cross the Vltava River on the Charles Bridge, which construction began on in 1357.
Across the river is Prague castle. No visit to Prague is complete without a visit to Europe's largest medieval castle. Constuction began on the buildings of Prague Castle with the Church of Our Lady in 870. During the 10th century,Saint-George's Basilica and St. Vitus Cathedral were built. Later the Old Royal Palace was built in the 14th century. The castle has a rich history as the seat of government from the earliest times.
Take a day out of the city to Cesky Krumlov has one of the most beautiful castles in central Europe. Another day trip is to Kutna Hora, an old silver mining town and once the richest town in Czech. Both towns or on the the UNESCO Heritage list.
A day trip along the Danube River to Vienna in neighboring Austria is also available.
